I no longer love my ST's Recaro seats

Well, I still think they are the most comfortable seats ever fitted to anything ever and I love how they look, but I was on the Ford parts site to price a replacement passenger-side fender (it took a fatal blow from a shopping cart and is beyond repair, thanks Wal-Mart) and decided to take a look around.

The covers, just the covers mind you, none of the stuff inside, are OUTRAGEOUSLY EXPENSIVE. Each front seat? $1700. The three parts of the rear? $2100. As a cat owner who uses his ST to take cats to the vet, I no longer like my seats.

people regularly sell them for 1k. although I would never buy car seats second hand cuz they prolly came from a wreck. also im super jealous your white on blue car and would trade my black on blue car for it in a heartbeat

We use something similar to this to transport our small dog. It does a great job of containing the hair and claws on upholstery are not an issue. It also keeps the dog off our laps while we are driving.

for $1700 a seat you could easily find an aftermarket seat that holds even better

A lot of owners really speak highly of them. You just have to have the right body type/shape for them, and they have to be broken in.

As for me, I’m more than happy that I saved $2k without them.

Why is your cat not in a carrier in the first place?

The S-Class and cars of that ilk don’t count in the discussion of seats. They don’t have seats. They have furniture.

And if we’re going on fanciness of the furniture alone, nothing will beat the Maserati Quattroporte’s optional Poltrona Frau upholstery.

Kinja'd!!!

I mean, it’s Poltrona Frau. If you’re putting furniture in a car, you can’t do much better than that.

I love mine, seriously my favorite seats in anything I've owned. Double plus good, my most annoying coworker can't stand them to the point he won't ride in my car.

Put your cat in a pet carrier when transporting them to the vet.

That will prevent the seats from getting clawed up.

It’s also another reason why I think cloth seats are better.

I do, and I’m a big burly guy, the kind of person who, according to the internet, should be the most uncomfortable in them.

They’re especially great on long journeys. I got out of them after a 5-hour drive in and out of traffic and I felt like I had just woken up from a nap.

Its the angle of my thighs that i hate and that its stiff but that’s probably moot if their broken in. Just for 2000 bucks I thought it would be closer to the mustang seat which I love. To each their own I guess.

My thinking was if you’re going to buy a sporty car, you should get it in the country it comes from’s racing colors. Italian cars in red, German cars in silver, British cars in green, and since it’s an American car, I went with white with a blue interior, since it doesn’t really have an exposed chassis to be the traditional blue, and they only offer black stripes for some reason. I have been tempted by the idea of getting Performance Blue Cunningham Stripes put on it if I can find a vinyl shop that can match the color.

I just thought they would be closer to the mustang or boss seats. Its the angle of my thighs in em that I can’t stand. The stock seats are better but still an odd seating position for me. Still a blast to drive though and yes cat hair is the worst.

Oh, I agree. I feel like the lower part of the seat is angled back too far to be comfortable. I have to slide up way closer to get my legs bent to the point where they won’t fall asleep. It doesn’t work for me, but I also don’t have especially long legs.

I can see how that would be a problem. I’m blessed (cursed?) with oddly short legs (I’m 6'2" with a 30" inseam, I have a gorilla body), so I’m quite comfy.

They went too far with the detailing and WE CAN DO SHAPES! so they are fabulously expensive things that look cheap. Seriously, they look like a pair of brown running shoes.

Have you seen how those seats are made?!?!?! Recaro’s Michigan factory handles them and there is a fair amount of labor involved for stitching and whatnot, IIRC. This is why you should check the 2000$ option box. They’re that damn good.

And if you dislike them because they’re expensive to replace (but not to buy) but are amazing seats then......I think your priorities are a bit backwards.

And it’s a 24,000 dollar hot hatch. It can get away with tacky shit like that. A luxury car that costs nearly 10 times as much can’t, really.

I’ve had my car for about 2 years and I don’t remember ever seeing the surface of the back seat. Blanket, then cardboard (to keep kid carseats from permanently indenting the seat), then other layer of blanket. It’s a thin fleece blanket so it’s not like an inch of material all folded up... anyway. The buyer of my last car said “wow your backseat is really clean” and I laughed out loud. “I’ve never used it, at least not directly. ” There’s always a ton of crap back there, kids, dogs, just none of it ever touches the seat.

I thought the seats were crap, that’s why I didn’t buy the car. Check out Volvo seats. They are far and away, the best things ever.
